It has been a loooooooong time since I have done a freestyle friday…..and I stopped because I thought they were getting a little rant like and complaining… so as I read through some of my previous ones, I was like that is not Maya in real life. I try not to complain about things and look on the bright side. So I stopped. But I actually missed these blog posts. They were the most fun to create and came naturally. So, I have regrouped and thought….hmmmm, let’s remain positive and freestyle at the same time. What do I love? Well, I love science, I love hip hop, and I love teaching my kids new things, so I created this freestyle inspired by DNA by Kendrick Lamar. With it being, the dopest month of the year, Black History Month, the lines ” “Loyalty, got royalty inside my DNA”….”My DNA not for imitation” resonated with me. So, I think this song was the perfect inspiration for me to use as I re-enter my Freestyle Friday life. BONUS: All of the information is scientifically accurate so if you create this into a song, I have provided a YouTube video that is an instrumental of the Kendrick song and you WILL LEARN ABOUT DNA!! WIN-WIN!

AND I AM RE-ENTERING EVEN HARDER THIS TIME! I have made a printable that you and your littles can print out to participate in Freestyle Friday!!! My kids actually enjoyed doing this as a writing activity. My second grader ended up writing a rhyming story that she loved and my kindergartener wrote out all of his sight words. It was super cute. He freestyled a completely different verse when I asked him to read but he was writing and spelled all of his sight words correctly, so it ended up being a really great experience.
