RECLAIMING MY TIME, outside! This Momma took the quarantine very seriously and rarely ventured out of the house. So, two day after the school year ended, we packed up and went to THE BEACH!! We did not tell the kids our plan and woke them up at 4:00am on a Sunday and said “SURPRISE! WE ARE GOING TO THE BEACH!” 3 happy, yet tired kiddos survived 7 plus hours in a Ford Expedition for a week long adventure in Pawleys Island at Litchfield Beach, South Carolina.
We stayed at the Litchfield Beach Resort & Golf Course. We had a beautiful one level beach house perfect for families. It has four bedrooms, four baths, spacious living room and den. It also has a wonderful and roomy kitchen with an awesome backyard deck. (I was so exhausted when we got in from the beach, I forgot to take pictures, oops!)
Litchfield Beach is a wonderful beach especially for small kids. The beach area is fairly flat and remains shallow for a fair distance, so small children can get in the water and stay at the same depth for a few feet. We got out around 9 each day and stayed until about Noon. One perk of getting out to the beach early, we got to meet a BABY SHARK! Check out the YouTube video below to see it! When the early afternoon hit, high tide was rolling in and got a little instance from my littles! I enjoyed it. I love beach waves and so does my husband.
After nap time, we would come back around 2-3 for low tide and loved swishing around in the tidal pools. This was especially fun for my toddler. It was like having his own kiddie pool on the beach. The tidal pool sea creatures were especially an added bonus.
On the third day of our trip, rain was in the forecast so we went to Ripley’s Aquarium !!! If you ever go, make sure to get there early. They have a penguin walk in the morning! Due to the global pandemic, some of the areas were not open but there was enough to do to stay entertained and educated. We were able to touch sting rays, walk under a tank and see SHARKS and a SEA TURTLE! There is a small tunnel for children to walk under to see inside the penguin exhibit, however the long was too long, so we did not it. My toddler’s favorite part was taking a picture with a mermaid. He keep saying for the rest of our trip that he met a mermaid. It was so cute.
The aquarium is an area called Broadway at the Beach that has a lot of shops, entertainment, and restaurants. We were looking for a quick bite like a hot dog, but everything that was “fast” was either ice cream or fudge. I was not about to do a sit down restaurant with a cranky toddler around nap time 😴 so we just feed a few of the coy fish at the board walk.
Another adventure we went on was to a place called Brookgreen Gardens. It is a botanical garden, sculpture garden, zoo and historical site. The great thing about the admission is you can enter the grounds for 7 consecutive days to see everything. We went to the zoo part and the historical site. The zoo animals are animals that are native to this part of South Carolina. It is in a swamp area, so make sure to have bug spray. We especially loved the aviaries and kids gardens in the zoo area.
To see our complete adventure, check out the video below. It was great to be out of the house and doing something a little more normal. We also made this trip one to experience for the next few years because we brought home 4 hermit crabs that my daughter and husband found. Stay tuned to meet our crabs. We have yet to name them because they keep switching shells. 😂😂
Have you ever been to this beach? Have you been to Myrtle Beach? It is only about 30 minute drive away? When was you last beach time? Let me know in the comment.

Enjoy!
