Retire the costume, puhlease…

pbs kids wild kratts blog freestyle momlife

Wow! I just realized that it has been over a year and half since I blessed y’all with my lyrical prowess (🤣😂 ).  Well, I am no Jay-Z or Queen Latifah but I try to entertain every now and again lol.  If you are not familiar with my Freestyle Fridays click here and here for a refresher with some of my previous dope rhymes lol.   🎶It’s been a long time, I shouldn’t have left you without a strong rhyme to step to 🎶.  If you got that, you love hip hop 😜.  Anyhow, this Freestyle Friday, I am sure many parents can relate too! So, slight confession… I love Halloween.  Love love love it! I just enjoy the fact that it is the one time of the year that kids and adults don’t take themselves so serious and dress in goofy, crazy, and sometime spooky costumes.  It is all pure fun (and a few frights).  This year, my kids have been obsessed with watching the PBS show Wild Kratts.  The science geek Mom in me loves it, but I have to play it cool like I do not enjoy it lol.  You know how fickle kids can be.  Anyway, we decided we were going as the Wild Kratts for Halloween and I was ecstatic! I did not calculate how ecstatic my son would be.  He will NOT TAKE THE COSTUME OFF!

Aviva Chris Kratts

He ran around so much on Halloween that this is the best picture I could get of him as Chris Kratts.  I was Koki, my husband was Martin, and my daughter was Aviva.  pbs kids

It was a whole family costume that worked perfectly for our multicultural family! So, I might have been very super duper duper excited and when Halloween was over, I was ready to pack up the Wild Kratts and move on ….

BUT my little guy has asked for his “Creature Power Suit” every single day since Halloween.  This suit is not needed for sleepwear nor should we wear it to a restaurant lol.  But he loves it! It is secretly super cute.  Have you run into this problem after Halloween? Any tips on how to help?  Or just let it go?  Well, this is what I really want to say to my son …in this ill freestyle…

Hey! Little son

I know Halloween was so much fun

But the time has come

to put the costume to rest

oh yes! You did look your best

and super fresh to def

But its been over a week

and that thing is starting to reek

Oh! Thats just your diaper that stinks

Don’t change the topic

That costume needs to come off quick

But I guess this is how you show your gratitude

I shouldn’t have an attitude

So, go ahead and do what you do!

Well, we have been working on gratitude and things we are thankful for, so I guess I should not be too upset that my child actually likes something that I bought lol.  Guess this is a life lesson for me to show appreciation for the things that they love and smile about it.  Yes! There is a small piece of me that is screaming enough already but I know this costume phase will pass soon enough and I will look back and just chuckle about this minor obsession! I hope you enjoy my freestyle.  I got bars, right? LOL! Leave some bars in the comments if you would like.

Enjoy!

  8. Firstly you kids are so gorgeous! I love that you were able to do a family costume. Loved the rhyme, I suppose all I can say is if at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again 😉
