Scary books are not my genre at all, and Iβm not a fan of scary movies either. I usually read fantasy and sci-fi, but in an effort to connect with my oldest son, I jumped into the world of scary books. He enjoys the Goosebumps series and Desmond Cole Ghost Patrol, so itβs definitely something heβs into.
Mackids Book sent me Read at Your Own Risk (the book photographed above) for an honest review, and I should have stuck with my usual genre and found another way to bond with my son!
That said, I enjoyed the book, and itβs definitely a page-turner. I was completely spooked by the first chapter, BUT I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. I had to keep readingβI was totally engrossed!
Read at Your Own Risk is a spine-chilling illustrated diary that follows a kid whose life takes a terrifying turn after a game goes horribly wrong. Now haunted, she finds herself communicating with an evil spirit that appears on the pages of her own sketchbook.
My son didnβt actually finish reading it because he was too spooked, but my 11-year-old daughter managed to persevere through it.
