SUMMARY

THE BOY WHO FOUND HIS VOICE is a heartwarming picture book about a young boy named Tyler who faces challenges when trying to express himself because his words often get “stuck.”

Tyler struggles to communicate with his friends at school, which leads to feelings of frustration. However, Tyler’s supportive mother comes to his aid, encouraging him to use art as a way to express his thoughts and feelings. As the school year progresses, Tyler’s confidence begins to grow, and he becomes more determined to overcome his speech difficulties.

One day, Tyler eagerly anticipates his turn for show and tell. Despite his determination, his words once again get stuck when he tries to share. However, instead of giving up, Tyler is more resolute than ever. He prepares something special and meaningful to share with his classmates. To find out what this perfect item is and how it helps Tyler find his voice, be sure to pick up THE BOY WHO FINDS HIS VOICE here.

REVIEW

Tyler’s story and his resilience offer a powerful message to young readers about overcoming obstacles and finding one’s voice, no matter the challenges. “The Boy Who Found His Voice” is more than just a book—it’s a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the transformative power of art and support.

I read this story to all my children, and even though my daughter is entering middle school, she still loves when I read picture books to her from time to time. This story sparked her curiosity, and she had many questions about speech impediments, stuttering, and what causes them. Our conversation led us to research these topics further, enhancing our understanding and empathy.

In relation to the author, teen activist and artistic prodigy Tyler Gordon, his journey is equally inspiring. Tyler’s stutter began after undergoing a procedure to restore his hearing, as he was born deaf. Through our further research, we learned the following:

“Most scientists and clinicians believe that developmental stuttering stems from complex interactions of multiple factors. Recent brain imaging studies have shown consistent differences in those who stutter compared to nonstuttering peers. Developmental stuttering may also run in families and research has shown that genetic factors contribute to this type of stuttering. Starting in 2010, researchers at the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) have identified four different genes in which mutations are associated with stuttering”(https://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/stuttering#:~:text=Most%20scientists%20and%20clinicians%20believe,mutations%20are%20associated%20with%20stuttering.)

You know I love a book ends up teaching us something SCIENTIFIC! 🥰🥰🥰
