The television is an interesting subject in our home. I have really worked hard not to let my little firecracker get wrapped in watching too much tv. So, when I do let her watch a little, I am very picky with the content and material. Majority of the time, the content is educational. Here is a list of the shows that we watch together the most!
- Sesame Street
It goes without saying, Sesame Street is AWESOME! The new episodes produced by HBO are now 30 minutes long (which is a bonus for limiting screen time). Sesame Street teaches the alphabet, numbers, and a million and one other topics for preschoolers. There is also a Spanish version, Plaza Sesamo, which comes on our local PBS station. You should check your local PBS channel that broadcasts in Spanish for show times.
2. Super Why
Super Why is a cute show for preschoolers to practice the alphabet, learn phonics and reading skills. The story lines are even cuter because they are based on fairy tales or nursery rhymes. You can catch this show on Sprout or anytime on Netflix.
3.Wild Kratts

Wild Kratts is another show that comes on PBS Kids. It teaches kids about animals and caring for the environment. Your little one will learn about animals and their unique characteristics. I actually take notes during the episodes, so we can review the material later. 🙈😂. Check your local PBS Kids station or Amazon.
4. Team Umizoomi
Team Umizoomi is a show that comes on Nick Jr that teaches math concepts. Kids will learn counting, patterns, and shapes. You can watch on Nick Jr or with an Amazon Prime subscription.
5. Daniel Tiger
Source: youtube.com
I cannot exclaim enough how much I 💜 Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood! This show is the modern day version of Mister Roger’s Neighborhood and I just LOVE IT! Daniel teachers toddlers and preschoolers about handling emotions, following the rules, making decisions, and everyday life concepts! It is wonderful! This show is great for emotional development! I have to say “Daniel does this or Daniel’s Mom said this…” fairly regularly to my daughter! And it works!
These are the regular shows that we watch but some other that I add in for a surprise are my Honorable Mentions
- Creative Galaxy
This show is by the creators of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood (so it must be amazing, right?). It has the same layout as Daniel Tiger, with a cartoon portion and then real people section, however this show focuses on Art concepts! There was one episode on Jackson Pollack that led to an awesome art activity for us! Click here to read more about that! This show is available with an Amazon Prime subscription!
- The Magic School Bus
- Storybots

Aww i grew up watching magic school bus and sesame street. Memories.😇
Two awesome shows that I get to watch all over again!!! 😊😊
I know right.😊
Thanks for this! We love Daniel Tiger, as you know. Athena’s first love was Sesame Street and now she’s addicted to Puffin Rock on Netflix, which I at least can have her watch in Spanish. Getting her more exposure to Spanish offsets my anti-TV sentiments in this case. We’ve also gotten back into Little Pim for more Spanish exposure through Hulu as Amazon Prime no longer offers it free, so thanks for that info too!
I will have to look up Puffin Rock! Thanks. Yes, I am anti-tv as well, so I feel half as bad that its in Spanish. I even ordered the Spanish package on cable… Guess I should watch in Spanish myself, too?
We love Team Umizoomi! I’m homeschooling so when I need a break I put this or Wallykazaam on. It’s amazing how they won’t count for me but they easily follow along with cartoon characters! Another one I like is Peppa Pig because it teaches tons of different stuff (including manners) in a natural, non-teachy way that my girl’s absorb. I have to see if I can find the Kratts–that looks a definite one to add to our schedule!
These are great! I often babysit a little girl so will definitely have to keep these shows in mind to entertain (and educate!) her! Thanks for sharing xo, sharon
